ABSTRACT

The receding globalization has reshaped the logistics industry, while the additional pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic has posed new difficulties and challenges as has the pressure towards sustainable development. Achieving the synergistic development of economic, social, and environmental benefits in the logistics industry is essential to achieving its high-quality development. Therefore, we propose a data-driven calculation, evaluation, and enhancement method for the synergistic development of the composite system of economic, social, and environmental benefits (ESE-B) of the logistics industry. Based on relevant data, the logistics industry ESE-B composite system sequential parametric index system is then constructed. The Z-score is applied to standardize the original index data without dimension, and a collaborative degree model of logistics industry ESE-B composite system is constructed to estimate the coordinated development among the subsystems of the logistics industry's ESE-B system. The method is then applied to the development of the logistics industry in Anhui Province, China from 2011 to 2020. The results provide policy recommendations for the coordinated development of the logistics industry. This study provides theoretical and methodological support for the sustainable development aspects of the logistics industry. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

Forecasting the demand for cold chain logistics of agricultural products will help to achieve the balance between supply and demand of agricultural products and promote the healthy development of the cold chain logistics industry of agricultural products. This paper collects relevant data from 2015 to 2020 in Shanghai, and uses grey correlation analysis to conduct correlation analysis on the factors influencing the demand for cold chain logistics of fresh agricultural products. The traditional GM (1,1) model, the new information GM (1,1) model and the metabolism GM (1,1) model are used to forecast the demand for cold chain logistics of agricultural products in Shanghai in the next five years respectively. The grey correlation analysis shows that the employees of the tertiary industry and the total import and export of goods have the greatest impact on the market demand of cold chain logistics and the results of the three GM (1,1) models show that the sum of squared errors of using the new information GM (1,1) model is smaller. Finally, using the new information GM (1,1) model to forecast the demand for cold chain logistics of agricultural products in Shanghai from 2021 to 2025, and it is found that the overall demand for agricultural cold chain in Shanghai is on an upward trend. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Since it has been established that supply chain management has traditionally been a process-oriented field with not much focus on innovation, in a post-pandemic world, engineering managers have realized that research is needed to identify which aspects of global supply chain management have the greatest need for transformation and could benefit most through the application of entrepreneurial competencies. Along those lines, the authors of this paper have earlier proposed a research model, which includes a mapping between supply chain management process steps and entrepreneurial competencies along with proposed training and organizational changes to facilitate the implementation of a more entrepreneurial approach to supply chain management processes. Using a qualitative, grounded theory approach based on two case studies, the authors focus on two industries. The differences and similarities between the two industries will be compared in this paper;thus, showing engineering managers how the model could be applied to the two different industries considered in this paper. ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic broke out, and the global logistics industry suffered severe losses, therefore, the FMEA-AHP (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis-Analytic Hierarchy Process) method is proposed to analyze the failure reasons of the logistics system in the COVID-19 pandemic. In this article, we have made an improvement on the basis of the traditional FMEA method: The AHP is integrated into the FMEA algorithm (referred to as RPWN (risk priority weighted number) in this article). In this algorithm, the AHP is to determine the weights of risk indicators. Meanwhile, in this article, we also consider about the new logistics failures, such as the failure modes and failure reasons of the logistics system under the COVID-19 pandemic. 12 failures have been identified, and corresponding preventive and corrective measures have been suggested to cut off the path of failure propagation and reduce the impact of failures. © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of 2019 has caused a profound impact on economic development. The catering, logistics and tourism industries have suffered a huge blow. This paper selects the catering industry as the research object, selects the 2019 and 2020 annual reports of five representative listed catering companies, classifies and summarizes the stated criteria for determination of the occurrence of self-interest attribution, calculates the degree of self-interest attribution, and compares and analyzes whether the self-interest attribution behavior of the five case companies before and after the COVID-19 pandemic stands out or amplifies the self-interest attribution behavior of the companies. The case studies showed that the degree of self-interest attribution was higher in the poor-performing companies, and that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the self-interest behavior of restaurant companies was prominent, and that the poor external environment was more likely to lead to a higher degree of self-interest attribution behavior. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

Nowadays communication has become a strong part in transferring information. Wireless devices have thrived in number recently, which connects the world by people and objects. The demand of internet has become the backbone of our communication network recently. The energy consumption increasing drastically due to the current situation caused by pandemic COVID-19 disease which forced the economic activities to use online medium as the main platform in doing business. The extensive usage of online data for communication has contributed to the massive increasing number of high energy consumption. It has been identified that green communication is one of the alternative approaches in reduction of energy consumption. However, there exists a gap on the application of green communication in logistics industry which is to say that little research has addressed the implementation of green communication in logistics industry. The importance of having sustainable energy sources has led towards good implementation of different techniques and methods in reducing energy consumption. As logistics industry has become the backbone of our economic activity, it is important to have a good energy saving strategy in implementing a sustainable practice. This paper highlights a review of ‘Green Communication’ (GC) application especially in the usage of communication technology as the medium, with its main objectives in the implementation of good practices towards clean energy approach. This study has gone through a systematic review focusing only on ‘Green Communication’ in order to examine the current research findings regarding GC. The findings are particularly relevant for logistics industry especially for those that involve in irresistible communication networks while preparing and implementing a good and sustainable practices. To further enhance the energy efficiency for GC networks in logistics, an integrated data-driven framework is developed and exemplarily applied on logistics industry in Malaysia. This paper proposes a framework to introduce lists of factors that contributes towards GC in logistics industry. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
